In literature society and towards the nation for his dedicated contribution as the recognition of his contribution as writer, journalist and devoted freedom fighter. He was honored with PADMA SHRI Award by the President of India, Dr- R-Venkat Raman in 1990.

In 1991, He was also honoured by the Prime Minister of India Shri Chandra Shekhar with Bharatendu Harish Chandra Award* for his book ‘तपती पगडंडियों पर पद यात्रा’.

In 1994, President Dr-Shankar Dayal Sharma awarded him with Ganesh Shankar Vidhyarthi. In his initial life, he was deprived from his school education but with his own understanding, sense of labour and with self & study he dedicately practiced it. He became author of two dozen unique books which became motivational for today’s generation as well as for future generation too. Prabhakar Ji died on 9 May 1995, in Saharanpur at the same place, where he had lived for more than a half century, where he composed his meaningful and positive literature and edited many articles and letters.

देश की भारत सरकार के अलावा उन्हें विभिन्न राज्यों की सरकारों द्वारा भी सम्मानित किया गया है, जिनमें उल्लेखनीय है – उत्तर प्रदेश, महाराष्ट्र, पश्चिमी बंगाल, बिहार, एवं दिल्ली।

“उन्हें हिंदी साहित्य की विधा ‘रिपोर्ताज’ का जनक माना जाता है।”

प्रभाकर जी की जयंती पर उनके सम्मान एवं स्मृति में प्रतिवर्ष किसी विद्वान को ‘शैलीकार प्रभाकर सम्मान समारोह’ पूर्वक प्रदान किया जाता है। जिनमें दो पुरस्कार भारत के उप राष्ट्रपति द्वारा उन्हीं के दिल्ली निवास पर दिए गए।
